Dear Palm Crest Families:
As many of you know, during the past two years, we have had a classroom dedicated for use as an iPad lab. The iPad lab has been used primarily to instruct teachers how to best use technology in the classroom. I am delighted to let you know that the iPad lab was a huge success; teachers are increasingly fluent with using various devices to enhance teaching in the classrooms. Now that our instructional period is over, the room previously used as the iPad Lab will be used as a classroom once again.
From now on, the Computer Lab will be a “Media Center.” Our capable tech specialist, Jeanine Benz, is integrating iPads and Chromebooks into her computer instruction. We will have a set of iPads for each primary grade to share, and a cart of Chromebooks for each upper grade to share (with the exception of 5th grade, where students will have their own Chromebooks). Instead of going to the iPad Lab, students will now have devices in their classrooms a minimum of once a week. In addition, upper grade students will not be limited to Chromebooks, but will have access to iPads as well.
I am very excited about this development. Consolidating our tech resources into a Media Center will increase instructional minutes, as students will no longer need to go the iPad Lab to use devices. In addition, adding another classroom furthers our ongoing goal of class size reduction.
