Principal Hurley shares a few reminders on drop off and pick up, reporting absences, volunteer opportunities, and lunch deliveries.
Dear PCR Families,
I would like to thank you for making the opening of school so successful! The turn out at both of our PTA meetings was outstanding. Thank you to Eileen Greenbaum, our PTA President, and the PTA Executive Board for their hard work preparing for the school year. Your volunteerism and dedication to the success of our school is truly appreciated!
The following information is extremely important – PLEASE READ:
Drop off and Pick up Procedures – We have a significant amount of traffic on the roads around Palm Crest during drop off and pick up times, particularly during the first two weeks of school. We encourage children to walk to school if they are able. If you must drop off and pick up your child, please be aware that we have only two drop off areas: (1) the front parking lot; and (2) on Jessen drive at the back of the school.
Front parking lot:
The front parking lot drop off zone may only be accessed by heading north on Palm during the 8:10 am drop off and during the 2:50 pm pick up time. There are no right turns permitted into the front parking between the hours of 7:45 – 8:30 am and 2:30 – 3:15 pm. Law enforcement will issue tickets to drivers who violate this rule.
Please pull as far forward as possible before having your children exit or enter the passenger side of the car.
Your children must take their backpacks out of the car themselves. Drivers should not exit their car at any point while in the carline.
There is no parking on Palm Drive directly across the street from the school.
Jessen Street Loading Zone:
The Jessen drop off and pick up zone is only available during the 8:10 drop off time and during the 2:50 pm pick up time. The walking gate will remain locked beginning at 8:30 am through to 2:45 pm.
This Jessen drop zone is accessed by heading east on Jessen Drive. There are no U turns permitted at the back access road to the school. Law enforcement will issue tickets to drivers who violate this rule.
Pull as far forward as possible before asking students to exit or enter the vehicle from the passenger side.
There is no parking in this area between the hours of 7:30 -8:30 am and 1:30 – 3:30 pm. All drivers must remain in their cars during these times.
Reporting Absences – Absences and tardies are carefully monitored since they affect a child's learning, and are audited by the state. If your child is more than 5 minutes late, a tardy slip from the main office is required prior to going to class. Our campus opens at 7:55 a.m. everyday. There is no supervision prior to this time. If your child will be absent, please call the absence hotline that morning at 818-949-4875. If your child will be absent for a religious holiday, please be sure to let the office know as the coding is specific in our database, and the absence will be excused.
Lunch Deliveries –Delivering lunches during the school day is discouraged. However, if there are occasions when your child has forgotten lunch, you may put your child's name and room number on his/herlunch boxes and bags and deliver them to the office. Also, please tell your child to check the office should a lunch be forgotten at home. Office staff will not be disrupting teachers and lunchroom supervisors with calls.
Volunteers and TB Tests – We are fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers. The law states that to protect students, each volunteer must have verification of being “TB free”. If you plan to volunteer at any time this year, please bring proof of a current (within 4 years) TB test by Friday, September 1 to be kept on file in the office.
PCT PTA Website – Thank you to all families who have registered on our PTA/PCR website atwww.palmcrestpta.org. We have 415 families registered and over 71 volunteer positions filled!
Wildlife – Community members have informed me that there have been bear and mountain lion sightings in the area, due to the recent heat and the dry weather. Please use caution at all times.
Thank you for observing our policies! Palm Crest is committed to educational excellence, caring, and respect for each person. If I can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to stop by, call or drop me an email. I am always happy to hear from you!
