PCY Collaboration Day Summary September 2nd, 2016

Kindergarten: The District's Kindergarten teachers met to review the new schedule for Back to School Night. Teachers discussed which parts were successful and determined areas that need to be altered. Kindergarten teachers also reviewed the homework policy and acknowledged that students are not required to complete the assigned work until First Grade. Finally, the Kindergarten teachers reviewed and made changes to the Common Core State Standards aligned English Language Arts and Math assessments. All of the assessments were updated in ESGI and all Kindergarten teachers input current student data.

First Grade: Today we discussed adjusting the District Writing Assessment for the new year. 
We discussed ESGI, we all created our accounts, added our students and began browsing assessments that were created.
We discussed EDM and what we like and dislike. 
We discussed Fountas and Pinnell and what we thought about having those first two weeks to assess. 

Second Grade: PCY's 2nd grade team of teachers met to discuss and evaluate student writing.

Third Grade:  The third grade teachers from all three sites met to discuss common assessments and the Everyday Math curriculum. The teachers discussed pacing and decided which assessments to administer. Lastly, the teachers looked into the games and progress monitoring features of Everyday Math.  The first ELA District Common Assessment and the first Unit EM Assessment will take place the week of September 19th.

Fourth Grade:  The PCY 4th grade teachers met to continue creating our pacing plan(s) for each subject for the 2016-17 school year.  We discussed ideas for common assessments, and gathered materials to be used for upcoming quizzes and tests.  Lastly, the team shared strategies for the successful teaching of Everyday Math (what works/ doesn’t work/ helpful hints, etc).

Fifth Grade:  PCY fifth grade teachers worked on Illuminate Gradebook set up to make it consistent in all classes. ELA teachers worked on aligning grammar curriculum to standards and pacing. Math teachers worked on pacing and strategies for Everyday Math.

ELD:   ELD teachers met with the Chief Director of Assessment, Research, Consolidated Programs and CALPADs to begin planning the ELAC meeting scheduled for Thursday, September 29th at 6:30 and the IPAD Distribution meeting scheduled for October 6th at 6:30.  They also discussed how to support teachers with the ELD Standards Progress Report now due every trimester and the possibility of having the Progress Report on Illuminate.  They discussed the monthly ELD newsletter.
